Plot Summary
- Old fashioned stolid yarn about sacrificing true love to chase the dream of singing on the world stage. Eventually the old diva knows in her heart she will be replaced by the young up and coming 'star'. Will she retire gracefully??. The new diva (Baba L'Etoile) sings beautifully and is a delight to listen too. Her real name is Conchita Supervia and she dies 4 years later in child birth.

Great Expectations (1946) - As Herbert Pocket
Plot Summary
- This story takes place in the 1830s and is about an orphan boy named Pip (John Mills as the young man), who receives a fortune and becomes a gentleman in London society, while his love for a woman named Estella develops. Pip gets involved with a convict named Magwitch who dies in prison. But, Pip finds out that Estella is the convict's daughter. Pip later rescues Estella from becoming her father's prey, and the bitter old woman Pip grew up with burns to death in her decaying mansion.
- Herbert Pocket assists Pip in a futile attempt to escape by packet steamer.

Oliver Twist (1948) - As Fagin
Plot Summary
- Based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist is about an orphan boy who runs away from a workhouse and meets a pickpocket on the streets of London. Oliver is taken in by the pickpocket and he joins a household of young boys who are trained to steal for their master.
- Fagin is the leader of a group of children, the Artful Dodger among them, whom he teaches to make their livings by pickpocketing and other criminal activities. Bill Sykes, one of the major villains of the novel, is one of Fagin's old pupils. Near the end of the movie, he is hanged, following capture.

Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) - As The Duke / The Banker / The Parson etc. etc.
Plot Summary
- Louis Mazzini's (Dennis Price) mother belongs to the aristocratic family D'Ascoyne, but she ran away with an opera singer. Therefore, she and Louis were rejected by the D'Ascoynes. Once adult, Louis decides to avenge his mother and him, by becoming the next Duke by murdering every potential successor in the family.
-Alec Guinness plays all the members of the aristocratic family as they get bumped off, one by one.

A Run for Your Money (1949) - As Whimple
Plot Summary
- Miners from South Wales, win a coal-cutting competition and take a trip to London to see the England-Wales Rugby match, missing connections with their reception committee. In the big city, innocent Dai soon finds himself accompanied by Jo, an attractive con-woman; while Twm meets a Welsh harpist who leads him through many pubs, and Mr. Whimple of the Weekly Echo is led a merry chase.
- Whimple is a newspaper reporter that they are supposed to meet, who will be their escort.

The Mudlark (1950) - As Benjamin Disraeli
Plot Summary
- "Mudlarks" are street children who exist by scavenging on the banks of the River Thames. In 1875 London, a 10-year-old Mudlark boy named Wheeler (Andrew Ray) finds a dead body where he discovers a Queen Victoria medallion, who he understands to be 'mother of England'. The scruffy urchin then sets out for Windsor Castle in search of her. But, Victoria has shut herself away in her palace for the last thirteen years, in mourning over her dead husband.
- Benjamin Disraeli is the prime minister who is struggling hard to persuade the Queen to end her long seclusion.

The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) - As Henry Holland
Plot Summary
- Holland, a shy retiring man, dreams of being rich and living the good life. Faithfully, for 20 years, he has worked as a bank transfer agent for the delivery of gold bullion. One day he befriends Pendlebury, a maker of souvenirs. Holland remarks that, with Pendlebury's smelting equipment, one could forge the gold into harmless-looking toy Eiffel Towers and smuggle the gold from England into France. Soon after, the two plant a story to gain the services of professional criminals Lackery and Shorty. Together, the four plot their crime, leading to unexpected twists and turns.

Plot Summary
- The unassuming, nebbishy inventor Sidney Stratton creates a miraculous fabric that will never be dirty or worn out. Clearly he can make a fortune selling clothes made of the material, but may cause a crisis in the process. After all, once someone buys one of his suits they won't ever have to fix them or buy another one, and the clothing industry will collapse overnight. Nevertheless, Sidney is determined to put his invention on the market, forcing the clothing factory bigwigs to resort to more desperate measures.

Malta Story (1953) - As Flight Lieutenant Peter Ross
Plot Summary
- In 1942 Britain was clinging to the island of Malta since it was critical to keeping Allied supply lines open. The Axis also wanted it for their own supply lines. Plenty of realistic reenactments and archival combat footage as the British are beseiged and try to fight off the Luftwaffe. Against this background, a RAF reconnaissance photographer's romance with a local girl is endangered as he tries to plot enemy movements.

The Prisoner (1955) - As The Cardinal
Plot Summary
- A Cardinal is arrested for treason for his resistance against the Nazis during the war. In prison, his interrogator (Jack Hawkins) is determined to get a confession of guilt against the state from the strong willed man, and thus destroy his power over his people. The verbal and psychological battles are gripping and powerful - not even the increasing pressures put upon the Cardinal can force him to weaken; not even solitary confinement, continuous blazing light in his cell, sleeplessness, efforts to persuade him he is going mad. And yet, in the deepening conflict, the superb indomitable prisoner, creates a tremendous pity on his tormentor, the interrogator.

The Ladykillers (1955) - As Professor Marcus
Plot Summary
- A gang of gentleman crooks use a sweet old granny (Kaitie Johnson) as a pawn in their scheme to steal £60,000 from a couple of security vehicles. All goes according to plan when the doddery old bat unwittingly plays her part for the men she thinks are humble musicians - but, when she finally catches on to what's happening, our thieves are left to take care of the old lady in a not so honorable fashion. Unfortunately for the criminals, luck is not on their side, and are offed quite accidentally, one at a time.
- Professor Marcus is the buck-toothed, pasty-faced leader of the nefarious gang and the last one to die.

The Swan (1956) - As Prince Albert
Plot Summary
- Princess Beatrice's days of enjoying the regal life are numbered unless her only daughter, Princess Alexandra, makes a good impression on a distant cousin when he pays a surprise visit to their palace. Prince Albert has searched all over Europe for a bride and he's bored by the whole courtship routine. He is more interested in the estate's dairy than Alexandra's rose garden. And then he starts playing football with the tutor and Alexandra's brothers. Invite the tutor to the ball that night and watch how gracefully Alexandra dances with him.

 

The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - As Colonel Nicholson
Plot Summary
- The film's story was loosely based on a true World War II incident in a Japanese POW camp in Burma from late 1942 through May 1943. POW's were ordered to build a Kwai River bridge to help move Japanese sup plies and troops from Bangkok to Rangoon. It was the number one box-office success of the year and it won seven Academy Awards.
- Colonel Nicholson at first refuses to build the bridges, but through persuasive tactics he eventually agrees. Nicholson becomes so obsessed with completing the bridge that it drives him insane.

Barnacle Bill (1957) aka All at Sea - As Captain William Horatio Ambrose
Plot Summary
- A British Naval Captain, who is plagued by incurable seasickness, retires from service and buys a decrepit amusement pier in a small coastal town. After discovering the local commissioners seek to condemn and seize his pier under eminent domain laws, he registers the pier under a foreign flag as a cruise ship at anchor.

Plot Summary
- Gulley Jimson is broke, difficult, conniving, uncouth, and a welcher - but an artist. The visions in his head may not really satisfy him when realized, but the quest continues, for the perfect wall. The Beeders leave for six weeks of vacation and return to find a 7000 pound committment and the wall of their living room a national treasure, even though living with a wall mural of feet is not their cup of tea. Then - in a bombed out church scheduled for demolition - THE wall that can become his vision.

Our Man in Havana (1959) - As Jim Wormold
Plot Summary
- Jim Wormold is an Englishman living in pre-revolutionary Havana with his teenage daughter Milly. He owns a vacuum cleaner shop but isn't very successful so he accepts an offer from Hawthorne of the British Secret Service to recruit a network of agents in Cuba. Wormold hasn't got a clue where to start but when his friend Dr. Hasselbacher suggests that the best secrets are known to no one, he manufactures a list of agents and fictional tales for the Secret Service. He becomes the best agent in the Western Hemisphere but it all begins to unravel when the police start rounding up his "network" and he learns that he is the target of a group out to kill him.

The Scapegoat (1959) - As John Barratt/Jacques De Gue
Plot Summary
- On a vacation in France from his nondescript job and life, John Barratt encounters a titled but impoverished French nobleman who looks exactly like him. The nobleman gets John drunk, and switches places with him to get a breather from his failing business and too-complicated life. John tries to convince everyone he is not whom they think he is, but he begins to get more and more involved with the family, including an unhappy wife, domineering mother, lonely but talented young daughter, bitter spinster sister and the expected mistress. As John gets to know them he feels he can help them with their problems, but is also becoming used to his borrowed life, which has given him a purpose for the first time.

Plot Summary
- Ford Startime (aka Lincoln-Mercury Startime) was an hour long, color anthology series sponsored by the automotive company. Music, variety and drama alternated in various programs over the course of the one season it aired. Many top stars appeared. Hubbell Robinson was the Executive Producer for the series which had a reported budget of 15 million dollars for the season.

Plot Summary
- This is the story of two senior officers in a Scottish military regiment. Major Jock Sinclair has been the acting Colonel of the Regiment and is well respected, so he assumes that he will be made the commanding officer. To his surprise, they learn that Lt. Colonel Basil Barrow has been named to the post. Barrow is a strict disciplinarian compared to Sinclair's easygoing approach and as he tries to impose his own style of leadership on his command, he struggles to gain the loyalty of his officers, particularly that of Sinclair who bristles at being a second-in-command with little to do. A final confrontation between the two men leads to tragedy for both of them.

H.M.S. Defiant (1962) aka Damn the Defiant! - As Captain Crawford
Plot Summary
- During the Napoleonic Wars, Captain Crawford takes command of the HMS Defiant and is ordered to rendezvous with the fleet in Corsica. With his son aboard as a new midshipman, Capt. Crawford takes an even hand with his crew. This does not sit well with his second-in-command Lt. Scott-Paget, a cruel officer who is also well connected and someone who has proven to be the downfall of his previous commanding officers. As a battle of wills ensues, Scott-Paget uses Crawford's son in an attempt to get the Captain to lash out against him. With the men on the verge of mutiny, they must also face the enemy.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - As Prince Feisal
Plot Summary
- This is the story of Thomas Edward Lawrence, who blazed his way to glory in the Arabian desert, then sought anonymity as a common soldier under an assumed name. The story starts with the death of Lawrence in in London at the age of 47. It then flashbacks to show him as a young intelligence officer in Cairo, in the desert where he organizes a guerrilla army leading the Arabs in desert raids against the Turks and leading his army to help the British destroy the Ottoman Empire.
-Prince Feisal is a Saudi Arabian prince and Lawrence's friend.They first meet when Lawrence is dispatched as a translator by the British to the Prince's tent.

The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964) - As Marcus Aurelius
Plot Summary
- Marcus Aurelius Antonius- is a philosopher and emperor of Rome. He summons his empire's governors and princes to German war headquarters for a Pax Romanus. He confides to his daughter, Lucilla, that his adopted son, Livius, will succeed him instead of his more unstable heir, Commodus. Overhearing this, Cleander, a blind prophet loyal to Commodus, presents Marcus with a poisoned apple. After the funeral, Livius, who does not share Lucilla's ambition for himself or Rome, allows Commodus to proclaim himself emperor.

Situation Hopeless... But Not Serious (1965) - As Wilhelm Frick
Plot Summary
- During World War II, two Americans are forced to bail out and parachute into a small German town. Herr Frick, being equal parts patriotic and lonely, keeps them as prisoners of war in his bomb shelter. While his prisoners go stir crazy, Herr Frick must decide if he's willing to lose their companionship by letting them know the war has ended.

Plot Summary
- Set in the years of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, this follows the life of surgeon-poet Yury Zhivago as he marries an upper-class girl and has his life totally disrupted by war. When the revolution forces Zhivago and his wife to seek refuge in a country cottage east of the Urals, Zhivago reunites with Lara (Julie Christie) and they have a tender love affair, but it is disrupted by civil war.
- General Yevgraf Zhivago is Yuri's half-brother and is searching for him and his mistress Larissa ("Lara") Antipova. Yevgraf narrates the story, but rarely interacts with any other characters in the flashbacks.
